Hunt For Church Killing Suspect In Police Gear
A manhunt is under way for a man suspected of killing a mother-of-three in a Texas church while wearing police-style tactical gear.
Fitness instructor Terri Bevers, 45, was found unresponsive by her students in the Creekside Church of Christ in Midlothian, 20 miles southwest of Dallas, on Monday morning.
Police said they believe Mrs Bevers interrupted a break-in at the church, where she was due to host a 5am fitness class.
Security cameras inside the building captured the suspect in head-to-toe tactical gear, including a heavy vest, helmet and gloves.
The footage showed “Police” emblazoned across the back of the suspect’s vest.
“His intent was to look like a police officer,” Midlothian Police Chief Carl Smith told a news conference.
He said investigators believe the suspect was already in the church when Mrs Bevers arrived.
There were signs of forced entry and broken glass in the building, he said.
Authorities have not said how Mrs Bevers died.
Her husband, Brandon Bevers, said his wife was “very passionate about transforming people’s lives physically and mentally”.
Mr Bevers, who was on a fishing trip in Mississippi when he learned of his wife’s death, told KDFW-TV: “I’m thankful for her being such a good wife and a good mother to our children.
“She’s had a very impactful relationship with a lot of people here in our community and I’m very thankful for all of it. I pray that whoever did this will be caught.”
