Former Dallas Cowboys star Joseph Randle has been detained on suspicion of aggravated battery, drugs possession and criminal damage.
The running back was arrested at 8.15am in Kansas – just hours after he tweeted about his desire to return to the NFL.
A bond has been set at $100,000 (£71,000).
Randle, who was released by the Cowboys last autumn, has had a series of run-ins with the law since 2014.
He has previously been held in relation to alleged shoplifting of aftershave and underwear, possession of marijuana, spitting at a police officer in a casino and speeding. An official at the Sedgwick County Jail in Randle’s hometown of Wichita was not able to confirm whether the 24-year-old has a lawyer.
